My father gave me this train and it needed some tender loving care.
Inside was all dusty and the old grease was stuck hard in the mechanism, the light bulb wasn't working anymore
I cleaned everything with some Q-TIP and acid brushes
I gently sanded the base with a 120 grid sand paper and put some sewing machine oil in the mechanism
I tested it with a Lionel transformer directly plugged on it.... so far so good!
The original transformer was missing in the box. My father gave me an old Lionel transformer like the one below :
After that, I cleaned the body with a gentle soap and an acid brush to go everywhere
I removed all the rusty / dirty surfaces with my drill and a wire brush
I cut some nails (removing head with a metal saw)
Filing the removed heads
Gently pushing them in place and pressing them with a long nose pliers
The original box
This is the light that needed to be replaced. Originally it was GE 18 V but I replace it with a 12 V bulb and everything is fine!
